My Love For Animals

Obviously, the latest 3 entries of mine are about animals. Do you know why I like them? First of all, I like an animal if it's cute , unique or beautiful. Second, it removes my stress making me relax. Last and not the least, I can play with them even some of them doesn't obey you.

Here are the animals that I made as a pet

Dog
Cat
Fish
Turtle
Frog
Guinea Pig
Chick
Lizard
Love Birds

I really love them. There is the sad truth that they die or ran away because of me. There are cases that I let them free. I remember last year I was scratched by a cat at school. Because of this, I go through several injections. I had finished all the injections last March of this year. Even bad incidents involving animals happen to me, I don't felt so traumatic about it. It's not their fault of course. That's I wouldn't be scared to them. I still love animals no matter what happens.

Buttterflies Make My Stress Gone

Last Friday, I go home early from school. I was tired and I need to commute to go home. It was traffic and it makes me stress. When I saw a butterfly fluttering, I just watched it. I didn't expect that it would flew in my lunch box. I didn't move because if I move the butterfly would fly away. I observed it. It was beautiful. It has black wings with a unique design. It is tiny. I watched it outside my lunch box. It makes its wings dance. Particularly at the lower wings. When the traffic is gone, the butterfly flew away. I had a relief when I saw that butterfly. Now my stress was gone.

Every time I saw a butterfly, my problems, stress, and headaches are gone. The more it is beautiful, the more I'll easily recover. It helps me forget all the problems in mind and it makes me relaxes in my thoughts. It is a miracle for me that there is this kind of animal in the world. I'm very thankful to God that He created such an animal like this.

I Found an Exotic Pet

Earlier, it was midnight, I was going to the trashcan in the kitchen to throw some trash. Suddenly, before I close the door. I saw something. It was a little lizard lying on the floor. Then when I look to it closely, I found it so cute. I put it on my desk. It's not moving. So I thought that it might die. I look closely to it. The heart is pumping. So I assume the he is okay. After that, he runs. I quickly catch it and put on a shoe box. It didn't take a long time when I put him in the shoe box. I just thought I need to let it free. He is too little and I think it needs to be nurtured by parents. So i say,"Little guy, you're now free." I let him go. Before I close the light to sleep, I let him run away from me. Before he left, I call him my "Lizard Friend" I wouldn't forget that cute lizard that I found. I closed the lights and I slept.

A Pet That Last Almost 9 Months

I proudly present my pet dog. His name is Accent. He is a dachshund. He is a very unique dog for me because he has blue eyes and a brown dapple coloring. I love his personality because when I'm sad he is very reliable. The problem is when you let him out of the cage, he will run around. It's hard to stop him. Even I can't stop him. Though his like that, I like him that way than a very timid dog. I just want him to be behave. He is a Capricorn. His birthday is December 27, 2006. He has 2 brothers and a sister. He is separated from them because he was for sale and I bought him when he was 2 months. I will take care of him until he grow old. He is the 1st dog that is with me for a long time. He is with me for 7 months. He will be 9 months on Sept. 27, 2007. It's a day before my birthday.

I think he is mature enough to have a family because I notice that he is ready to have one. I will be very sad if he left. He really has a good breed I can say. When he has his own puppies, they will be as handsome as their father. I think.....

Wines For Everyone...Banana Wine in The Making

Last time about the post I had about that Raisin Wine a.k.a Raisin Jack, we already tried the wines that we made. I thought it was disgusting but when I try the wine that we made it was pretty strong. This 2nd term, we have a project that we need to make our own variety of wine. My group's choice is banana wine. This is the recipe for the banana wine.

Banana Wine

Ingredients

Peel and slice bananas. Chop 1/10 to 1/2 of the banana peels. Place both in a large saucepan with 6 cups water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain out pulp.

Put sugar, raisins, campden tablets and the juice of the lemons into primary fermentor. Pour hot banana liquid over sugar mixture and stir to dissolve. Make up to 1 gallon with cold water. Let sit overnight.

The next day, add nutrients and yeast. Leave for 5 days, stirring daily. There will be heavy foaming during fermentation.

On the fifth day, siphon into secondary fermentor before stirring, being careful not to disturb the sediment on the bottom. If necessary, make up to volume with water. Attach airlock. Siphon the wine off the sediment after three weeks. Return wine to fermentor.

For a dry wine, Rack every three months for a year.

For a sweet wine, add 1/2 cup sugar dissolved in 1 cup wine at each racking until fermentation does not start again when sugar is added.

Continue racking wine every two to three months until it is clear. Bottle.

Variation

Trivia:
Philippines is known for making the best fruit wine in the world. So I'm proud to be in the Philippines.

The Ultimate Arbiter
Sunday, September 16, 2007

Last Friday (September 14, 2007), I participated in my school as an arbiter to the ISSAA Scrabble Games. 10 or 11 schools have participated to the said event including CRMI(the school where I study). CRMI is the host for the ISSAA Scrabble Games. I volunteer myself to be an arbiter again I missed the time that I became an arbiter. It was last year. We have late preparations on it unlike last year. Because of this, we also have a late start. It gives me a headache. So an arbiter's work is ... if there is a player that challenges the opponent's word, the arbiter will search for the word and declare is there is such a word or not. But it turns out later then that I became a game moderator. I'm the one who helps the teachers on writing up the matches. The games are double elimination. So if you lose the first time, you still have a chance to play the second time. I'm also the one who is calling the players of some schools and assigning them to a vacant table to play. I was termed the "Ultimate Arbiter" by Nevin Reyes(he is a reserve player at this time). Maybe because I'm a bit bossy around that time and I have a large progress on being an arbiter to a game moderator.

This is my comparison from this year and last year games. This year, we had late preparations unlike last year we started early. The place is too close spaced unlike last year the place was wide and spacious. Last year, we finished the game early but this year there was a continuation the following day.

Sigh.... Well, having this work is kinda stressful. I asked Sir Jeff if he will gave me a copy of the matches and he says yes. I wish he will give me the powder copy of the matches. It was a souvenir of my hard work.

A Speech In Values
Sunday, September 9, 2007

This a speech that I passed to my teacher in Values. It's quite a nice speech so I like you to read about this.

What's better than...
By Butch Jimenez

As college students, you're just about to set sail into the real world. As you prepare for the battleground of life, you'll hear many speeches, read tons of books and get miles of advise telling you to work hard, dream big, go out and do something for yourself, and have a vision.
Not bad advise, really. In fact, following these nuggets of truth may just bring you to the top. But as I've lived my life over the years, I have come to realize that it is great to dream big, have a vision, make a name, and work hard. But guess what: There's something better than that -

So my message today simply asks the question, what's better than...?

What's better than being negative?

Let's start off with something really simple.

What's better than a long speech? No doubt, a short one. So, you guys are in luck because I intend to keep this short.

Now, let me take you through a very simple math exam. I'll rattle off a couple of equations, and you tell me what you observe about them. Be mindful of the instruction. You are to tell me what you observe about the equations.

Here it goes : 3+4=7, 9+2=11, 8+4=13 and 6+6=12.

Tell me, what do you observe?

Every time I conduct the test, more than 90 percent of the participants immediately say, 8+4 is NOT 13, it's 12. That's true and they are correct. But they could have also observed that the three other equations were right. That 3+4 is 7, that 9+2 is 11, and that 6+6 is 12.

What's my point? Many people immediately focus on the negative instead of the positive. Most of us focus on what's wrong with other people more than what's right about them. Examine those four equations. Three were right an only one was wrong. But what is the knee-jerk observation? The wrong equation.

If 10 people you didn't know were to walk through that door, most of you would describe those people by what's negative about them. He's fat. He's balding. Oh, the short one. Oh, the skinny girl. etc.

Get the point? It's always the negative we focus on and not the positive.

You'll definitely experience this in the Corporate World. You do a hundred good things and one mistake-guess what? Chances are, your attention will be called on that one mistake..

So what's better than focusing on the negative?

Believe me, it focusing on the positive. And if this world could learn to focus on the positive more than the negative, it would be a much nicer place to live in.

What's better than working hard?

We have always been told to work hard. Our parents say that, our teachers say that, and our principal say that. But there's something better than merely working hard. It's working SMART.

It's taking time to understand the situation, and coming out with an effective and efficient solution to get more done with less time and effort. As the Japanese say, "There's always a better way."

One of the most memorable case studies I came across with as I studied Japanese management at Sophia University in Tokyo was the case of the empty soap box, which happened in one of Japan's biggest cosmetic companies. The company received a complaint that a customer had bought a box of soap that was empty. It immediately isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soap box went through the assembly line empty.

Management tasked its engineers to solve the problem. Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two to ensure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast. But a rank-and-file employee that was posed the same problem came out with another solution. He bought a strong industrial electrical fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, an as each soap box passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line. Clearly, the engineers worked hard, but the rank-and-file employee worked smart. So what's better than merely working hard? It's working smart.

Having said that, it is still important to work hard. If you could combine both working hard and working smart, you would possess a major factor toward success.

What's better than dreaming big ?

I will bet my next month's salary that many have encouraged you to dream big. Maybe even to reach for the stars and aim high. I sure heard that about a million times right before I graduated from this university. So I did. I did dream big. I did aim high. I did reach for the stars. No doubt, it works. In fact, the saying is true "If you aim for nothing, that's exactly what you'll hit: nothing."

But there's something better than dreaming big.

Believe me, I got shocked myself. And I learned it from the biggest dreamer of all time Walt Disney. When it comes to dreaming big. Walt is the man. No bigger dreams were fulfilled than his. Every leadership book describes him as the ultimate dreamer. In fact, the principle of dreaming and achieving is the core message of the Disney hit song, "When You Wish Upon a Star". "When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are; anything your heart desires will come to you. If your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme. When you wish upon a star, as dreamers do, " as Jiminy Cricket sang. But is that what he preached in Disney company? Dream?

Imagineering...Well, not exactly. Kinda , but not quite. The problem with dreaming is if that's all you do, you'll really get nowhere. Infact, you may just fall asleep and never wake up. The secret to Disney's success is not just dreaming, it's IMAGINEERING.

You won't find this word in a dictionary. It's purely a Disney word. Those who engage in imagineering are called imaginers. The word combines the words "imagination" and "engineering". In the book " Imagineers," Disney's CEO, Michael Eisner, claims that "imaginers turn impossible dreams into real magic." Walt Disney explained there is really no secret to this approach. They just keep moving forward-opening new doors and doing new things, because they are curious. And it is this curiosity that leads them down new paths. They always dream, explore and experiment. In short, imagineering is the blending of creative imagination and technical know-how. Eiser expounds on this thought by saying that "Not only are imaginers curious, they are courageous, outrageous, and this creativity is contagious."

The big difference with imaginers is that they dream and then they DO! So don't just be a dreamer, be an imagineer.

What's better than vision?

You must have all been given a lecture at one time or another about the importance of having a vision. Even leadership expert John Maxwell says that an indispensable quality of a leader is to have a vision. It is also very clear that without vision, people perish." So no doubt about it, having a vision is important to success. But surprise ! There's something more potent than a vision. It's a CAUSE. If all you're doing is trying to reach your vision an you're pitted against someone fighting for a cause, chances are you'll lose. The Vietnam War is a classic example. Literally with sticks and stones, the Viet Cong beat the heavily armed US Army to surrender, primarily because the US has a vision to win the war, but the Vietnamese were fighting for a cause.

In the realm of business, many leaders have visions of making their company No. 1, or grabbing market share, or forever increasing profits. Nothing really wrong with that vision, but take the example of Sony founder Akio Morita. He did not just have a vision to build the biggest electronics company in the world. In his biography, “Made in Japan" he reveals that the real reason he set up Sony was to help rebuild his country, which had just been bettered by war. He had a cause he was fighting for. His vision to be an electronics giant was secondary.

What's the difference between a vision and a cause?

Here's what sets them apart.

• No one is wiling to die for a vision. People will die for a cause.

• You possess a vision. A cause possesses you.

• A vision lies in your hands. A cause lies in your heart.

• A vision involves sacrifice. A cause involves the ultimate sacrifice.

Just a word of caution. You must have the right vision, and you must be fighting for the right cause. In the end, right will always win out. It may take time, and it may take long. But if you have the right vision and are fighting for the right cause, you will prevail. If not, no matter how sincere you are, if you are not fighting for what is right, you will ultimately fail.

It is said : "To whom much is given, much is required."

Having been given the opportunity to study in UP, no doubt, much has been given to you in terms of an excellent education. Don't forget that in return, much is now required of you to use that education not just for yourself, but for others. And as you move up and start reaching the pinnacle of success, even more will be required of you to look at the welfare of others, of society and of the country.

A final review:

• What's better than focusing on the negative?

Focus on the positive

• What's better than working hard?

Its working smart

• What's better than doing something for yourself?

Doing something for your country

• What's better than a vision?

A cause

• What's better than a long speech?

Definitely, a short one

This speech was given in the UP Diliman 2003 Commencement Exercises

Juntember?... Hexember?… SEPTEMBER!!!
Thursday, September 6, 2007

September is now here. My birthday is already near. Earlier this afternoon, I asked Paolo and Paul.“When is Confucius birthday?” Paul started at January 1-31. He counts off the days in it. Then, I shook in a fast movement as he count off the days. Now, he is telling the months from February. I shook also fast until he tells the month of September. He count off too fast that I also shook fast until he says “28” That’s Confucius’ birthday. I proudly say to them that I have the same birthday as Confucius. I can’t imagine that I share the same birthday with a famous philosopher. “September is now removed in the calendar.” Paolo said. “Now there are 11 months” Paul added. “No, there is a new month in the calendar.” Paolo exclaimed. “Yeah! It’s Juntember Paul said. Juntember? What the heck of a month is that? It’s obviously the combination of June and September.

June + September = Juntember

June is the 6th month the calendar. September is the 9th. So if you combine them, it means that Juntember is the 69th month. “That is impossible! The calendar is capable on 12 months. I think…” I just thought of it in my mind. Little laughs. After that, Paul changes Juntember to Hexember. Cess joined on the conversation and agreed on what Paul said. “It’s a cool month because the shortcut of it is Hex.”

Prefixes:

Sept = 7
Oct = 8
Nov = 9
Dec = 10
Hex = 6

Then I just thought of something. Why Paul would replace the month of September with some month that is related to 6? I don’t know why but with that I want those 2 months to be added in the calendar. Now, we will have 14 months. But that is impossible though. I don’t want to replace September because I wanted to celebrate my birthday in this month. This month is irreplaceable. ^*^

Another thing is that today is the 6th day of September. ^*^

College...Too Early To Talk About It
Tuesday, September 4, 2007

What course shall I take? What course suits me? Where university shall I study? I know it's too early but I'm so nervous on my outcome in college.

I remember, when I was in my preschool years, I wanted to be a doctor. I often pretend to be like one. I use the stethoscope of my dad and making the stuff toys as the patients. I am very jolly at this time and I felt I would be permanent on what I want when I grew up.

All of a sudden, I heard that if I want to be a doctor I need to for 10 years. 10 years? It's too long. So, in my elementary years, I just thought of being a nurse. I'm just so carefree when I think about it. Then, when I will graduate from my elem years to high school. I also thought on being a manager of some sort of a hotel or restaurant. I'm so carefree at those times.

Here, I'm already at high school. When I was a freshman, I thought of having a course of computer science. I just thought of it because of my growing fond in computers. I still hold on to this until my dad doesn't want me to have this course. He wants me to have a medical course. I don't want to have any medical courses now because I don't want a work that I know would not enjoy into it. I told this too my grandma (of my mother's side) but she says that having that course is UNPROFFESIONAL. So, I told her that I will take up computer engineering. Now, she agreed. "It's better than being a nurse. You will have freedom in that kind of job unlike of a nurse" she said.

I have some side interests too. I will just publish it on a next entry.

On the university that I want to study, I don't have any problems. It's easy for me to answer this question. I exclaimed "De La Salle University Taft" I don't really know why do I like this school. I just found this university cool and hot.
